Growing up in Sterling, IL, I was fortunate to know that I wanted to have fitness as a profession right out of high school. My mom and I started working out and neither of us knew what we were doing, which triggered me to want to learn more. Why were we working out? What were the benefits? I became her resource, and she began depending on me for the education. The average college student changes their major an average of five times in their college career, but I was able to declare my major from day one. Until this day, I am still act as a fitness consultant to my mom. It has become a part of her daily routine. One of my proudest achievements was helping her create a lifestyle habit. Mom has always put others first, often putting her personal well being on the back burner. It is my passion to help other selfless people, who continue to sacrifice their personal time, find the time for health and happiness.
After college, I interned at KSB Hospital in Dixon, IL, in wellness programming and cardiac rehab. I loved it because I really felt like I was making a difference. Working with people who never exercised before or feared exercise after a cardiac event and looked to me for support was so rewarding. I was hired on full time at CGH Hospital in Sterling , IL as their first exercise physiologist. My responsibilities were to develop their first employee wellness program and work in cardiac rehab. My grandfather, unfortunately, became one of my patients, hitting home that each person I worked with was someone's grandfather, which made me realize how important my job was. The employee wellness program is still a successful program today.
Two years later, I moved to Chicago to pursue a position with Advocate Fitness. I continued to work in cardiac rehab, as well as corporate fitness programming for the next five years. I saw individuals struggle with work-life balance. Our memberships were often cancelled due to lack of time or schedule conflicts. Occasionally, people just didn't feel comfortable with working out along side co-workers. Passionate to find a solution to helping individuals find time for health and fitness, we decided to create a solution to meet the needs of those who didn't come to our doors. We needed to come to them . . . evolved Escape 2 Fitness.
